GreenGT, the pioneer in electric-hydrogen technologies signs a prestigious contract with 49 SUD to develop and supply fuel cell systems for Climate Impulse airplane.

GreenGT, the Swiss engineering company specialising in electric-hydrogen technologies since 2008, has been awarded a contract by 49 SUD to develop and supply cutting-edge fuel cell systems for the CLIMATE Impulse airplane. This marks the commencement of an exciting collaboration with two distinguished eco-explorers, Bertrand Piccard and Raphael Dinelli, the innovative minds behind the groundbreaking project

«We are thrilled and honoured to be selected by 49 SUD to work on the propulsion.» said Jean-François WEBER, Managing Director at GreenGT «Our long experience in the development of advanced fuel cell solutions will contribute to sustainable aviation technology, and we are eager to play a part in the success of this mission along with esteemed partners.»

In 2028, CLIMATE Impulse plans to complete the first non-stop round-the-world-flight in a
green hydrogen-powered airplane, showcasing the possibilities of sustainable aviation and
environmentally-friendly technologies. The major technological challenges
are building an aircraft around two liquid hydrogen tanks, maintaining the temperature at -253°C and powering electric motors through fuel cells.

Key characteristics of the fuel cell systems encompass airworthiness with a power output of 2 x 200 kW, at the highest efficiency level and weight power ratio of the market. Syensqo, the main partner of the CLIMATE Impulse project, will support GreenGT in achieving record breaking power density through the supply of innovative materials.

GreenGT looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the development of the CLIMATE Impulse airplane, leveraging its expertise in fuel cell engineering and sustainable powertrains, particularly in the innovative utilisation of liquid hydrogen. This approach aims to advance the frontiers of sustainable aviation and make a lasting impact on the future of eco-friendly transportation.
