DePoly, a start-up based at the Energypolis Campus and supported by The Ark Foundation, has just been named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum (WEF). A company specialising in the advanced recycling of PET/polyester plastics, it joins another Valais-based start-up, MobyFly, in this prestigious list. The WEF is thus recognising the dynamism of the Valais start-up scene!
DePoly has come up with an innovative solution to the PET plastic challenge facing the world today. Thanks to its technology, PET plastics are broken down into the raw monomers known as purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG). This process produces a virgin quality product, identical to its petroleum-based counterparts. PTA can then be used to make recycled PET products, reducing the need to extract oil to produce new plastic.
