Banana fiber fabric, solar-powered fuel or vertical factory: once again,
outstanding innovations are nominated for this 6th edition of the Green Business Award. Each
year, it rewards companies that successfully combine ecological action
with economic success. Because if we want to preserve our planet for future generations, then
the economy has to be part of the solution. We are delighted to have nominated 3 promising companies: AQUA4D, Plateforme la Plaine and Kugler Bimetal SA.
Meeting challenges in an environmentally friendly way without neglecting economic success? The 36 companies
nominated for the Green Business Award reveal their secrets. Nearly 20 partner organizations of the Green Business Award,
including the Federal Office for the Environment, the Solar Impulse Foundation
Swiss Textiles and WWF, selected an impressive array of innovative solutions from Switzerland :
examples include a start-up that restores coral reefs, a cloud service
intelligent cloud that records the behavior of a building, or a natural cosmetics company
that makes creams from plant residues.
Innovation in the construction and textile sectors
From building techniques that reduce CO2 consumption to recyclable building materials,
it’s impossible to miss the large number of construction companies present
at this year’s show. “The construction sector is responsible for 38% of CO2 emissions worldwide.
” But when it comes to sustainable development, this sector has long lagged
behind the others. So it’s all the more pleasing that sustainability is seen as a
market of the future in this sector,” says Doris Leuthard, jury president and former
Federal Councillor. The textile sector is also well represented this year, with
a biodegradable substitute for polyester and a process that eliminates
harmful chemicals during manufacturing. “I’m delighted by the number of textile companies
nominated: it’s a strong and important message being sent out against the consumption of fastfashion,” applauds Cédric Habermacher, Director of Green Business Switzerland.
Assessment of sustainable solutions
The selection process for the Green Business Award is unique and takes place in several stages.
A pre-judging panel awards the Green Business Excellence label to the five best companies nominated.
These five companies then present a pitch to the main jury, chaired by Doris Leuthard.
Three of these companies will be presenting their solutions on February 14, 2025 at the Impact Circle Event
organized by Impact Gstaad, in front of an audience of potential investors, with the aim
of winning financing for their growth. The winner is announced at the end of the pitches.
Jury President Doris Leuthard underlines the relevance of this award: “As
individuals, we can’t save the planet on our own: we need
the economy. So we need models to guide us.”
