Last week, the young company Emissium, based on the Energypolis Campus in Sion, won the pitch competition at the START Global event, organised in St. Gallen. Having qualified at an initial START event in Lisbon, Emissium then went on to qualify for the final, which it won hands down. The prize was a cash sum of CHF 10,000 and an investment of 500,000 euros to continue developing its application in relation to CO2 savings.
«I still can’t believe it, but we did it. From Lisbon to the big stage in St Gallen, in front of 7,000 people, we reached the top of this competition. », explains Rafael Castro-Amoedo, co-founder and CEO of Emissium. The young Sedan-based start-up was in the final with three other international start-ups at this major event. START, which offers several different but complementary initiatives, is one of the largest student-run European conferences on start-ups.
Emissium therefore wins a cash prize of 10,000 euros, as well as an investment of 500,000 euros from B2venture. This amount will undoubtedly help Emissium to progress in the market. ‘We are delighted to be working together to make our data available to an even greater number of companies and accelerate the transition to low-carbon decisions,’ notes Rafel Castro-Amoedo.
Data analysis to track CO2
A spin-off of EPFL Valais and the laboratory of Professor François Maréchal, Emissium is developing a digital platform that enables companies to measure, monitor and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Emissium’s solution relies on advanced data analysis to offer accurate and transparent reporting, thus facilitating the definition of concrete decarbonisation strategies. For example, it enables data centres, which are major consumers of electricity, to plan their operations when electricity has the lowest carbon footprint and the lowest price.
“Our vision is to become the world’s most reliable and granular provider of data on the carbon emissions of electricity” – Rafael Castro-Amoedo, CEO. Quote taken from the latest Panorama of Cleantech Start-ups, find the full profile on page 86.
Well done to Rafael Castro-Amoedo and his team!
